MR LYAN’S TASTE TRIPS: EPISODE THREE
London:
A World of Flavours in One City
For the third episode we’re in Ryan’s adopted home of London. This city is a cultural melting pot made up of numerous communities that are celebrated and embraced. We explore some of the lesser known cultures in the city, neighbourhood cult favourites, and award-winning food and drink establishments – all of which make up the diverse fabric of the city.
The thread pulling this episode together is gin, a spirit historically tied to London, and in particular Fords Gin.
Distilled at the London Thames Distillery, Fords Gin is a modern take on the London dry and a collaboration between a 10th generation master distillery Charles Maxwell, and gin expert Simon Ford.
This episode delves into the martini, looks at new bakery trends at Bake St, pub life with Megha Khanna of The Gladstone Arms, and the importance of local grocery shops. Ryan cooks alongside Ayo Adeyemi, head chef of Michelin starred West African restaurant Akoko, and catches up with old friends Monica Berg and Alex Kratena of award-wining bar Tayēr + Elementary. And of course, there is a classic East London nigh out with Turkish kebab included.
With each episode we feature a number of deep dives and special focus videos – from why Turkish food is London’s best late night food, to The secret world of the Gin Guild. Here are two of our favourites:
