MR LYAN’S TASTE TRIPS: EPISODE FOUR
Mexico:
Ancient Techniques & Modern Approaches
For this episode Ryan flies across the world to Mexico, where he finds warm hospitality, a little too much fire for his palate, and of course incredible agave spirits, including tequila from Teremana, a distillery in the highlands of Jalisco.
At Destilería Teremana® de Agave Ryan ‘helps’ harvest the blue agave plant – which tequila is exclusively made from – and follows the plant’s transformation into liquid, to understand the complexity of producing tequila.
Ryan also visits Guadalajara and learns about the extent of agave spirits and the culture surround the category. The episode ends in Mexico City, exploring the city’s diverse cultural offering.
This episode delves into the histories of Mexico’s food and drink, meeting people who are using ancient traditions combined with a modern approach. Ryan takes the viewer on a night out with Mexican wines, late night tacos, and an award-winning bar; he explores baked goods, agua frescas, and Mercado San Juan de Dios, Latin America’s largest covered market. He visits friends at tasting room Salón de Agave, and Arca Tierra – a regenerative farm in Xochimilco’s floating gardens, connecting ancient agriculture with Mexico City’s restaurant scene.
With each episode we feature a number of deep dives and special focus videos – from Mexico’s best cocktail, to discovering if Ryan can handle the heat?
